Odom Signs Blueprint for Louisiana
Aug. 31, 2007
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Bob Odom
signed the Blueprint Louisiana agreement today
saying ethics, education and access to healthcare
are important issues for Louisiana’s farmers and
landowners living in rural communities.
In his letter to the Blueprint Louisiana Steering
Committee, Commissioner Odom wrote, “I ask that you
remember to include agriculture and forestry and
their related industries in you ‘blueprint.’
Agriculture and forestry are the backbone of the
state’s culture and economy with an impact of more
than $23 billion on the state’s economy. Louisiana’s
farmers and ranchers provide citizens with the
necessities required for survival.”
Commissioner Odom continued by stressing the
importance of improved healthcare, education and
transportation for all Louisiana citizens including
rural communities.
“Improving education and transportation, and
providing access to healthcare are major goals that,
when accomplished, will benefit all of Louisiana
especially our rural farm and timber communities.
These citizens work hard to provide this country its
much-needed food and fiber and their children
deserve top-notch schools with programs tailored to
the specific needs of their community.
“These communities also need access to quality
doctors and healthcare professionals who can monitor
their health and wellness and keep them from missing
valuable time working in the fields, forests and
pastures. Adequately maintained infrastructure also
guarantees rural communities their hard work will
pay off when their crops, livestock or timber are
delivered to market in a timely, efficient manner.”
Commissioner Odom is seeking re-election to the
Agriculture & Forestry Commissioner post in this
fall’s statewide elections. His campaign Web site is
